Searls Land shortlisted for SME National Business Award
Searls Land is proud to announce that we have been selected as finalists in the SME National Business Awards 2024, shortlisted in the Family Business of the Year category.
Searls Land was founded 14 years ago by Tim Searl, who already had a successful track record in property and land development.
Tim’s original vision was to create a land agency that would achieve the best possible outcomes for all stakeholders and be respected by housebuilders, promoters and landowners. This vision has always been underpinned by family values – which are placed front and centre of the team’s approach at Searls Land – as we strive to achieve the best possible outcomes for our clients.
It’s a family affair
While our family credentials are plain to see – with Tim’s sons Ed (Senior Strategic Land Manager) and Charlie (Land Manager) both long established members of the team – the family approach extends beyond the obvious with Senior Land Manager Adam Galbraith and Senior Strategic Land Manager Sam Dutton both being childhood friends of Ed, Charlie and Tim’s other children.
Tim said: “We’re very happy to have been named as a finalist in the SME National Business Awards, especially in the Family Business category.
“I’ve always recognised the importance of family values in my business. That goes beyond employing my sons and people I’ve had long-standing relationships with – we ensure people enjoy working with us and feel valued.
“Yes, it’s hard work but the success and the rewards make it worthwhile, and we add a touch of light-heartedness wherever possible. We host several annual client events including a football tournament and Christmas dinner.
Staff retention tells its own story
“Only one employee has left in the 14 years we’ve been going, and they are now a client of ours. I hope that’s because people are energised by their jobs, we give them flexibility and autonomy and in return they continually deliver outstanding results.
“We’re excited about the awards. It’s always nice to be recognised and the ceremony will be a fitting way to round off what has been another great year for Searls Land.”
As part of Searls Land’s focus on family values, we have supported the local community, supporting Sussex-based charity Kangaroos since 2021. Kangaroos provides activities for people with learning disabilities. This partnership was established after the charity supported the children of two of Tim’s friends. This year’s fundraising target for the charity is £30,000. You can read more about the work Kangaroos does here.
The winners of the SME National Business Awards will be announced at a gala dinner taking place at Wembley Stadium on December 6.
